Safe in the Sun – How to Enjoy Summer without the Burn!

We love the summer it’s time to have fun with friends and enjoy the outdoors! Especially after the last year and having to stay indoors as everything was closed, we’re really loving fresh air and freedom! Yet one thing can ruin our longed for vacation, as we lose track of time with our outdoor activities – sunburn!

It’s happened to the best of us, we get home after a day at the beach, with red, sore skin, and our plans to be outside again tomorrow canceled as any more time in the sun will for sure result in blisters. Yet it’s super easy to have a great time without burning by following some simple steps:

Chill in the Shade

Summer fun doesn’t mean that you have to be directly in the sun! Summer time is the perfect time to find shade underneath a tree to read, or grab a shady spot at the beach bar to sip cocktails and enjoy some snacks!

Slather on the Sunscreeen

There’s no doubt about it sunscreen really helps to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. The higher SPF you use the better, as even those with dark skin can suffer the damaging effects of UVA and UVB rays, which can lead to wrinkles, premature aging, and skin cancer. Don’t forget to reapply every two hours, and use even if it looks cloudy. You’ll be surprised how much you can burn even on a seemingly cloudy summer’s day!

Protect your Eyes with Sunglasses

Sunglasses are a must for a day out in the summer (or anytime we feel like looking cool!), and we’ve got you covered with this trendy collection for the season! No matter what look you’re rocking, you can guarantee that an awesome pair of shades will complete your look so you’re ready to take on the world! In addition, they protect your precious eyes from the harmful rays of the sun, helping to keep your eyesight sharp!

Have Fun in Hats

If you’re going to be out and about and unlikely to find shade, take your shade with you with a gorgeous hat! There are so many types you’re bound to find one that will suit you and that you’ll love! If you need inspiration, check out our guide to this summer’s hottest hat trends right here!

Avoid the Hottest Part of the Day

The highest risk of sunburn is when the sun is highest in the sky during the hottest part of the day. You can reduce this risk by staying out of direct sun between 10am and 4pm. Head for the shade, stay indoors with the air conditioning, or use a combination of sunblock, hat and sunglasses, with additional covering over your shoulders, which are the most exposed and at risk of burning!
