At LèMert, we’re ever inspired by brave and intelligent women around the globe. With a team of international, well-traveled women working on powerful garments, we are motivated by a range of diverse forces. Here’s to our faves! This time, our spotlight is on Yara Shahidi.
Who is Yara Shahidi?
Yara Shahidi is an American actress and model from African-American and Iranian-American descent who acts in the series Black-ish and Grown-ish, providing a platform to represent young people of color in the entertainment industry. At only 18 years old, she’s already well-known as an activist, focusing on getting her peers to vote and partnering with the Young Women’s Leadership Network of New York in mentoring poor people through education. This cool young lady was even noticed by former first lady Michelle Obama, who wrote her a letter of recommendation to Harvard University.
Standing up for what you believe in is something Yara Shahidi gets from her family. Her grandfather was a Black Panther, a cousin was the first Iranian female space tourist, and an aunt went to Rwanda to study reconciliation in war-torn areas, she mentioned in an interview with Interview Magazine. Growing up in a creative environment was also not new for her since her dad was Prince´s photographer.
Why do we admire her?
Yara speaks up for the things she cares about. She an activist for feminism, STEM awareness, and self-empowerment. She is a true example of someone who is not afraid to let their voice be heard.
Which items do we see Yara Shahid wearing? We see Yara Shahidi starting at Harvard University in our Reina Denim Shirt Dress. And when taping the show Black-ish in Los Angeles we definitely see her walking around in our Sinuosa printed wrap around midi-skirt!
