Perfecting Productivity – Work Smarter Not Harder
If we’ve learned anything over the last two years, it’s how much time we really waste in the office during our working day. From the ‘dead time’ that is the daily commute, to meetings that could be an email, or emails that could be a quick message, we have had the chance to reevaluate our schedules.
Working from home has given us more flexibility to manage our own time, and the overwhelming majority of people say they are actually more productive without typical office distractions. Add to this the benefit of more free time to spend with our families which has increased our morale, and more time to rest and relax which gives us more energy, we’re looking at a better work/life balance than ever before.
So as we look at new ways of working, such as fully remote or hybrid. Here’s how we can plan our week to make sure we get the best out of our schedule:
Make a To Do List (and Make it Achievable)
One of the best things you can do to boost your productivity is set goals for exactly what you want to achieve. I f we know what we’re doing, getting there is much easier. Write down the things you want to achieve in the week and break it down into days. Don’t overload with too much in the day, as if your list is too long it can be overwhelming and demotivating. Break your workload into bite sized chunks and see how good it feels to tick off each task one by one!
Schedule Time to Rest
A hectic schedule is not a good one, and you could actually miss opportunities if your day is too packed! Make sure you schedule down time to refocus and come up with new ideas. Letting your brain relax can open the door of creativity, and a dinner date with your best friend? It just might lead to a career enhancing encounter!
Use a Calendar
Using a calendar is extremely useful not only for planning, but also reviewing tasks that have been done. You then start to see patterns in your workload and can then look for ways to improve your processes to cut down time spent on repetitive tasks. We have so many tools available to us in modern times, there are many things we can do with apps or devices that can make our working lives much easier!
Value Your Time
If there's one thing money can't buy, it's time. Make sure that you value every minute to spend less time doing what you have to, and more time doing what you want to. As adults, we too quickly lose ourselves to responsibility. Although we do have to work to earn money to live, we have to remember that we also need to have time to enjoy the money we do earn. Build your schedule to ensure you don't lose precious time just getting through your work day!
